The Daily Grind

The day that could have been, but wasn’t

I seriously think I almost got fired today. My boss (well one of them) hasn’t been too fond of me, or my department lately. We’ve been underperforming because, surprise the economy is in the toilet and that directly impacts what we do.

He was on the phone, my phone, pacing outside glaring and spitting angrily into the phone. Presumably talking to my other boss who was talking him down and calmly explaining that he really can’t afford to fire me right now. I’m good at my job, and I’ll turn things around, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I suddenly had abotu a million things to do. Catch up work, filing, anything to keep my mind off the distinct possiblity that I’d be getting to go home a little earlier than planned.

But the other shoe never dropped.

I fixed every single thing that he had taken me to task for, and then some. I calmly looked him in the eye while he berated me and resisted the urge to talk back (this is a big thing for me).

I was fully prepared for today to be worse than yesterday, but by the end of the day, my boss (the other one, that’s a fan of my work, and thinks I’ve got a good head on my shoulders) was beaming (probably because he didn’t have to fire me).

I'm not angry all the time, that's just how my face is.
